Jianping Huang is the distinguished professor of Lanzhou University, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars, Ministry of Education, and the academic leader of National Fund Committee innovation research group. He is the editor of the Scientific Reports and Scientia Sinica: Geosciences. He is one of the lead authors of the fifth assessment report of the United Nations intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) working group, chief scientist of major national scientific research program, and the first Chinese doctoral degree winner with outstanding contributions. Also, Jianping Huang is the winner of the first "Zhao Jiuzhang Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Science Work Award", second prize winner of national natural science award (ranked first)and national outstanding scientific and technological worker and national innovation prize winner.
Jianping Huang has long focused on semi-arid climate change research. He took roots in western China and built the semi-arid climate observation system in China after more than ten years together with his group. The group has rapidly developed into the first national fund committee innovation research group in the semi-arid climate change field in China, the first key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, and the first innovation and intelligence introduction base of the Ministry of Education. He has made a series of Original research achievements with strong foundation and high influence.
